Lawrence Ference, Corner Creek Farms

Corner Creek Farms began its journey into bison ranching in 1993, building on experience from raising elk since 1987. Lawrence and Maureen Ference started with just 12 bison in the Elk Point-Bonnyville area of Alberta and have since grown their operation into a thriving 2,200 acre cow-calf operation with some feedlot activity.

Through continuous research and dedication, the Ferences have grown their herd by visiting numerous ranches across Canada and the United States to gather ideas for better management and genetic improvement. Their focus on genetic diversification has led them to maintain herds of pure plains, pure wood, and wood cross bison. With three decades of experience, they have developed a strong herd through consistent culling and selective purchasing of breeding bulls and replacement females.

Most recently, the Ferences have expanded their farm, going into partnership with their son who currently lives in Texas, naming their joint venture LoneStar Prairie Bison. This expansion represents an exciting new chapter for Corner Creek Farms.

Lawrence is honored to be selected as a judge, reflecting the farm's commitment to excellence in the bison industry. Both Lawrence and Maureen are longtime proud members of the Canadian Bison Association and the Alberta Bison Association, actively supporting fellow members and producers.

Lawrence and Maureen, along with their adult children Zachary, Allison, and Lisa, welcome both longtime friends and newcomers to the 2024 Agribition Show and Sale. They wish all consignors a successful sale and look forward to fostering connections within this exciting industry.

Randy Gaskill

Randy Gaskill has spent his life gaining knowledge of all animals. Learning from trapping, fishing and big game hunting growing up in the mountains of Colorado. He has spent most of his life cattle ranching, but decided Bison was what really interested him.

He started a bison herd at a ranch that previously raised elk. He then began to develop his own herd 22+ years ago. He’s spent many years observing and studying bison as well as asking questions and learning from Bison ranchers. He feels that a quality animal should have the bone and structure for strength of conformation.
