“February 25th, 2020 was a great day for the bison industry in North America” stated Les Kroeger, President of the Canadian Bison Association.
Armin and Rita Mueller of Canadian Rangeland Bison announced their donation of $4.0 million to establish a bison operation at Lakeland College. In making the donation, Armin spoke of his love for the animal and passion for the industry.
The gift will strengthen Lakeland’s two-year animal science technology program at the Vermilion campus and provide more student-managed learning opportunities for people in the program’s livestock major. As was stated during the announcement, with the addition of a bison herd, Lakeland will become the only post-secondary institution in Canada where students, with mentorship from faculty, manage commercial-sized bison, beef, crop, dairy, and sheep enterprises.
“It was an amazing event to see almost 300 enthusiastic students on the stage with Armin and Rita during the announcement. Undoubtedly many of these students may play an important role in the industry” stated Les Kroeger.
“The students’ opportunity to learn more about bison and gain hands-on experience is going to establish a strong foundation upon which to grow the bison industry” added Terry Kremeniuk, Executive Director of the Canadian Bison Association.
“We cannot adequately thank Armin and Rita Mueller for this donation and what it means for the bison industry. We look forward to the future as we work with Lakeland College and Armin and Rita and support this project in any way we can to make this project a reality” concluded Les Kroeger.
