Jean-Luc Chouinard

In Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, on July 6, 2020, at the age of 63, Mr. Jean-Luc Chouinard, co-owner of Les Bisons Chouinard, husband of Ms. Mary-Jo Gibson, died accidentally on his land.

JEAN-LUC was a member of the Boards of Directors for the UQB and CBA. An active participant, supporter, and friend of the industry. He will be greatly missed.

In 1996 Jean-Luc started "The Bisons Chouinard" - a family business located in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, on Route 132, near two large campgrounds. The farm has 100 bison dedicated to serving the local market. Bison sold on the farm are raised in a natural habitat free of herbicides and pesticides. The focus is on the health conscious consumers. "Bisons Chouinard" offer tours and bison tasting by appointment. Their business including meat sales, tours, and other bison products such as skull, horns, hides, and related products are promoted on their website www.bisonchouniard.com.

Currently, bison is marketed directly from the farm with a sales counter open year-round offering diverse cuts, the delicatessen and other ready-to-eat products. In addition, each summer, the owners organize and manage a public market and offer various meats, fruits and vegetables and a number of other local products in addition to bison.
