ELKOLA FARMS

LEN & LORI KOOP

Elkola Farms is owned and operated by Len and Lori Koop. We've been in the bison industry since 1997/98. We run a 40 cow/calf to finish operation. Our animals come from various respectable producers in the industry (Wigness, RJ Game Farm, Silver Creek, etc). Our bulls come from Spirit Bison.

Because of limited acres, we need to keep our herd size smaller, so to complement and support the farm, we also have cabins on the farm that we rent out.

To the public outside the bison industry, we are known as Prairie Sky Cabins.

We enjoy the opportunity of showing our guest the bison and exposing them to the industry.

ROCKY MEADOW BISON

RYAN YACHYSHEN

Rocky meadow bison was established in 2003 when an opportunity to purchase a small group of plains heifers came along while working in Drayton valley AB shortly after graduating high school. These heifers were then briefly boarded at the Orvall Enge ranch in Margo SK until a fence was constructed on a small piece of my grandfather’s land that was too rough for grain farming. When these original heifers left Margo, they came with 2 of Orvall’s bulls, and this group along with additional heifer purchases from the Orcheskis of Buffalo Hill Ranch would form the core of our foundation herd. Over time, the herd has evolved into a very uniform group of 80 extremely docile, thick, consistently productive plains females. A good portion of our current cow herd consists of our own home grown replacements that were meticulously selected for conformation and along with consideration for their dam’s productive history. These bison are my pride and joy! And they get to live an extremely low stress life and are very happy to be rotationally grazed in 3 separate breeding groups throughout the summer months. With continued efforts to focus on herd and pasture management, I am very encouraged by the steady progress of improvement. Raising bison is my passion! I am very excited to attend the SBA/MBA No Borders Premium Bison Breeding Sale with 2 bulls going up for sale - one 2018 and one 2019!

TORCH RIVER BISON

GREG PAGAN

Torch River Bison was established in 2000 and presently runs about 200 cows and a backgrounding operation. Most of the bloodlines originate from the Durham line mixed with a Wood influence on the Dam side. Bulls are chosen from award winning ranches in Western Canada along with some home grown stand outs.100% of the calves born at Torch River are Wood Crosses of varying percentages. I've shown animals and sold some of the top end as breeding stock since about 2009. Numerous awards in all classes have been won at Regional, National and International levels and also I've purchased some of the top bulls at these levels to elevate the quality of the herd. The Bull offered today is out of one of the top performing groups at Torch River, There will be extensive data available in the animal profile showing his weights and rates of gain over the last year.
